Alex Lovell - Official Website

Welcome

Alex grew up in Yorkshire but moved to London aged 18 to train as an actress at Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama.

The next few years were spent treading the boards in many different productions including Blood Brothers in Frankfurt, Birmingham Repertory Theatre Company and on tour with the BBC's hit children's show Playdays.

Children's theatre soon lead on to her first foray into TV in Tell Tale Productions Fun Song Factory.... and her friendship with Co-star Dave Benson Phillips brought the next job, when he recommended Alex for Playhouse Disney.

Playhouse Disney was so successful it soon became an international brand - this meant filming all over the world for Dave and Alex.... including Paris, Madrid and Buenos Aires.

The next move for Alex was into shopping TV where she earnt her live stripes!

"Once you've learnt to talk about a pen for an indeterminable amount of time, you feel confident in your ability to cope with anything live TV can throw at you!"

Although Alex was now keen to stay in TV the acting bug never died away. She appeared in BBC's My Dad's the Prime Minister" written by Ian Hislop and numerous large scale pantomines as principal girl or boy!

The next move was in light entertainment as the host of FIVE's live daily quiz show, Brainteaser.

"Everyday my main objectives are to relax 4 terrified contestants and communicate with everyone at home"

"I always harbour a secret wish that viewers will feel a connection when I talk to the camera - that I am speaking to them. When I look down the lens I might imagine perhaps a person a bit like me or someone in my family.... or a Mum half watching as she runs around after her kids.... maybe someone who's retired staying sharp and testing their brain or a student, probably just surfacing! It's easy to be myself presenting this programme - sounds like a funny thing to say but a lot of presenters are very different on and off screen."

As Brainteaser moved to studios in Bristol, so new opportunities came along.

Alex's distinct vocal sound won her several voice-overs. Including Ch4 and E4's Fool Around, Discovery's Wedding Planners, Deal or No Deal and most recently FIVE's In The Grid.

During this time an opportunity came up that Alex knew was too good to miss... presenting the local BBC evening news.

"The BBC has always represented, for me, the peak of my ambition and I was ready for another sharp learning curve, this time into the field of journalism... I knew it would be a tough challenge and that I was approaching this from an unconventional background but I had to try for it as I knew it was the most fantastic opportunity - and I was right. I wanted to demonstrate the dedication and experience necessary to do the job and was over the moon to be given the chance to prove it."

So, what's next?

"Who knows - but it's exciting waiting to find out!"
